A pleasant, art-deco-feeling hot spring retreat, tucked up against the foothills of the Kaimai Ranges. Just 6 km east of Matamata, follow the signs out to Opal Springs. Here you will find a comfortable camp with a hot mineral pool complex (free for campers). In the valley below the camp, enjoy a large heated swimming pool, or pay a little extra to enter the secluded, punga-ringed, historic ‘Ramaroa Pool’. Campsites are spread across 3 elevated terraces, with around 80 with power. There are free showers and toilets. A serviceable kitchen has stoves, microwave, a fridge/freezer and opens to a BBQ terrace with outdoor gazebo. There is a porch-style automatic laundry. The camp store is well stocked and you can check your emails using the internet kiosk or wireless is available throughout the camp. Aside from the pools, the kids will enjoy the playground.
