Although this is some 50km from Queenstown, the sealed road takes in some great alpine scenery. The park is at the head of Lake Wakatipu with an outlook to the majestic Southern Alps, it is virtually the entrance to Fiordland. Undergoing a huge redevelopment, the camp is currently offering limited camping facilities, but even these sound pretty good. There are 34 sites, a laundry, kitchen, showers and a children’s playground. This camp will be closed from 28 March until November
